An MCP server is the piece of software that exposes your tools and data — your CRM, your books, your ad accounts — to an AI model through the Model Context Protocol. It is the part someone has to actually build for an AI agent to act on your business instead of just talking about it.
- ▪An MCP server is the connector that lets an AI agent act on your real systems, not just chat about them.
- ▪36,000 US searches/mo on average — but volume has fallen roughly 84% from last July’s peak of 65,000.
- ▪KD 81 — genuinely hard. Anthropic, GitHub, and a DR-95 Reddit thread hold page one.
- ▪Modest CPC ($0.90) masks a builder audience: engineers deciding what to stand up next.
- ▪Our edge: we ship MCP servers in production — including the QuickBooks connector Intuit’s own integration wouldn’t build.
“MCP server” is the search a developer runs right before they start building one — and building them, not writing about them, is the entire second half of our Attribution practice.
The emergence
Demand cooled hard this year. Search interest opened last July above 65,000 a month, and by this July it had fallen to just over 10,500 — a roughly 84% drop as the initial wave of curiosity gave way to a smaller group of people who actually ship. Global volume still runs to 147,000, so the category hasn’t disappeared; it has consolidated.
The commercial pull
At $0.90 a click, this is not a term advertisers pay heavily to intercept — but the searchers are the same technical decision-makers who show up on “claude mcp,” just earlier in the funnel, weighing whether to build the connector at all.
Who’s competing for attention
Page one is genuinely hard — KD 81 — and the top five prove it: the official Model Context Protocol docs, GitHub’s own server repository, and a DR-95 Reddit thread on r/AskProgramming all outrank generic explainers. This is a technical audience policing its own SERP.
Growth or decline
The honest read is decline, not just deceleration — volume fell in nine of the last twelve months. That’s consistent with a hype cycle rolling over into infrastructure: fewer people search the concept because more of them already know what it is and have moved on to building.

How PPC Snobs executes here
A cooling search trend doesn’t mean a cooling opportunity — it means the tourists left and the buyers stayed. We build custom MCP servers for clients on a roughly 72-hour Firebase and Cloud Run pattern, including the QuickBooks connector that reconciles ad spend to revenue in the client’s own ledger. We aren’t writing the 47th explainer; we’re the case study.
The searches that are left are the ones that matter — someone who has already decided to build, and just needs the reference for how.
